Solutions to Skin Discoloration
It is possible to correct skin hyperpigmentation. Solutions range from being long term, expensive to being a prescription medicine. Always consult a physician first before trying to treat yourself.
Skin Discoloration Treatments
To reverse skin discoloration, birth control pills should be stopped. Effects are long term although slight changes can be seen. You can use a concealer to cover the blemish up. And don't forget to have an alternative when you stop taking your birth pills.
Sunscreen is recommended for everyday use to prevent or treat discoloration.
Do not use products that can make your skin photosensitive to the sun. If a certain product brings about the change in discoloration for the worse, then stop using it. AHA's in exfoliants and moisturizers are not able to function by themselves although when partnered by hydroquinone, kojic acid or other topical product, they help improve skin appearance.
Serums made out of vitamin C lightens skin. Their potency increases when used with AHAs.
Skin lighteners from herbs include licorice, raspberry, bearberry, kiwi, rice, and grape seed extract. You can find these ingredients on the label of drugstore.
A concealer camouflages flaws in the skin, giving immediate results. An example of this is Dermablend.
A light diffusing foundation distracts the eyes from seeing the discoloration on the face. It does not hide the discoloration but makes its just less noticeable.
Consult with your dermatologist about the following solutions:
Bleaching creams like hydroquinone inhibit the formation of a new pigment. It takes about 24 days to view a difference. One should wear sunscreen so as to cover the skin since sun exposure may darken the bleached area. Any irritation caused should be discontinued.
Laser
resurfacing treatments are done to reduce dark pigmentation. This is a very serious procedure done only in a doctor's office. Its main work is to correct scars and wrinkles.
Melanin production is halted by azelaic acid and it works against acne although results can't be seen until after several months.
Retin-A and other topical creams have no effect against discoloration by themselves but when coupled with hydroquinone, help diminish pigmentation.
These treatments need time so patience and perseverance should be present as well as love for one's skin. Only time will tell about the result of these treatments of your skin.
