Light Therapy
The use of light to correct some skin conditions from psoriasis and acne has found to have beneficial effects. Ultraviolet rays from the light can decrease the rate of production of overactive cells in psoriasis, which is the main cause of this illness. Subsequently, light with blue and red wavelengths are thought to kill acne causing bacteria, leading to a reduction and treatment of acne on the face. Both can lead to at least an improvement in the condition of the skin.
Equipment for light therapy can be purchased for your use at home or you can visit the salon or your dermatologist for this type of treatment. Psoriasis is affected by the exposure to the sun, thus light resembling UV rays is used. During therapy sessions, it is advised to wear sunscreen since the exposure will be for fifteen minutes, two to three times a week. At least thirty treatments are needed for visible results. It is the same duration for acne treatment, but a different light is used, one with blue and red wavelengths. Use the light boxes for 15 minute sessions two to three times a week for a duration of 30 treatments.
This therapy claims to be useful in reducing conditions usually associated with psoriasis and acne and has been proven to be effective in some people, although not can claim a positive response. Fair skinned people are discouraged from having too much exposure to the UV rays since they are more prone to skin cancer.
