Botox

Botox, a purified form of the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, has been making waves in removing the wrinkles found between the eyebrows, corners of the mouth and between the mouth and nose. Botulinum is a bacteria which causes food poisoning that is usually fatal. In these injections, the toxins are purified to bring about paralysis of certain facial muscles.

It is frequently used to reduce wrinkles in the forehead, corners of the eyes and wherever it may appear when frowning. The duration of the treatment is about four to six months. The fee charged is according to the number of Botox injections units used on the face. It depends on the reaction of the facial muscles on the injection. Around ten percent of people undergoing botox treatment complain of deep bruises since having them is usually painful.

Botox has the reversible side effect of drooping eyebrows or eyelids which lasts about three to six months. There has also been cases where double vision has been reported but in extremely rare cases, usually lasting for several months. There are no side effects that last longer than six months.

Use of botox is contraindicated when you have a neuromuscular disease like myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy or an allergy against human albumin or the Botox toxin. It also cannot be used when pregnant or breastfeeding, drinking alcohol or taking an anti-inflammatory medication within fourteen days.

After a botox treatment, you have to wait after four hours to be able to lie down. Do not massage the treated muscles to prevent the botox from spreading to the muscles of the eyes. It must be exercised every fifteen minutes within an hour after treatment since botox is absorbed by active muscles. This treatment can be done every four to six weeks.

Botox may seem great, but before you schedule your appointment, determine how much expression you want to retain in your face. You could risk your face looking like an expressionless mask, boring and uninteresting to others.

Botox Cost

The cost of botox can vary from state to state. It normally ranges between $300.00 to $500.00 dollars per treatment.
