Having suffered from acne most of my teenage years this was a miracle cure for
me. I had tried everything before and nothing worked. I had very large cystic
acne. My chin was the worst area and every chance I got I would cover my chin
with my hand and I think this may have aggravated it and made it worse. I did
not want to go to school or even outside. The embarrassment was terrible. I
always thought people were starring at me. On some days the breakouts were so
bad I would take the day of school because I was to embarrassed to go. Then I
was finally prescribed accutane and the changes seemed to take effect almost immediately.
The swelling went down and the pimples went away. I am very glad I was
prescribed this and wish it would have been sooner. It would have saved me from
the embarrassment and self esteem problems that come from severe acne as a teen.
It would have also helped with the pitting that is left from trying to pick the
acne also. I have scarring left on my chest from the constant picking at the
acne there.
Side Effects:
Dehydration. It seems I could not get enough to drink.
It would also dehydrate my skin. Drinking alcohol
seemed to make the acne come back almost immediately.
I would drink beer with my friends and it seemed like
I could almost feel the acne start to come back and
begin swelling.

I got acne when I was 9 years old and now am in high school. I hated
it, and personally having to wear make-up at 9 years old just so i wouldn't be
embarrassed to walk out of the house was a bit ridiculous. Also, being so young
I had a tendency to pick at it all the time which wasn't good either. I started
to see my regular doctor for it at first because he said he could treat it, but
after awhile it got so out of control he recommended a dermatologist. I was
started to SO many different things and then she recommended accutane, i knew
there were a lot of test and side effects involved but i was willing to try
anything. The only symptoms i got was joint pain (knees,ankles) some back pain,
headaches at first, and my face dried out. After about 2 1/2 months a started
to see an improvement. I was so happy that only after 3 months my forehead was
totally clear and smooth for the first time since i was nine years old! Then
eventually everything started clearing up very fast my back has been covered and this summer was the
first time in a long time i wasnt embarrassed to show my back in a bathing suit.
I am SO happy with the results so far, I will be done with the medication at the
beginning of August. I would recommend this to anyone who has acne and wants to
get rid of it, because i know what it is like to suffer like that. I was
teased, made fun of terribly, and called so many names and, i don't think anyone
should have to go through that, especially when its over acne, something that NO
ONE can control.

They say that there is no cure for acne.It looks like there is. I had acne all my life. I am 32 now. Tried everything I took 3 full months when I saw i have no acne... My face is clean my back is perfect. Side effects are dry lips. Very dry Got to get a good lip balm. I used one with cortisone. Its been almost 2 years and I am acne free.

I took accutane during my sophomore year of college when I was 19 Im now 22. I went into the experience with extreme reservations because of the claims that accutane can effect your mood ie. make you suicidal and may only accomplish temporary results ie. acne comes back a within months after stopping treatment. However about 2 and half years later I have to say Im very happy I chose to go through with it. Before continuing though I should make note of two things. Firstly since I'm a guy I didnt face the issues girls do when considering taking accutane if your a girl you CAN NOT get pregnant while on accutane or you baby will have serious birth defects. Secondly while I considered my acne to be horrible my dermatologist thought it was only moderate since it was only on my face and not really widespread so I had to convince him to I wanted to try it. I would assume most people on or considering acne probably had worse skin. Anyway I was on accutane for about 6 months and it was not always an enjoyable experience. Most of the time I was on accutane my skin was incredibly dry. When you wake up in the morning on accutane your skin is so dry it looks cracked and may even peel so regularly applying moisturizer became a must not an easy adjustment for a young guy. Also your lips become ridiculously dry so always carrying a good medicated chapstick becomes necessary. Now Ill talk about how accutane affected my mood. Accutane never once made me consider suicide not even close. Still I can distinctly recall a few times probably about once or twice every month where I would notice I was down about something in my life more so than I normally would be. I wouldn't quite say accutane made me depressed at these moments but that it made it more difficult at these times to get over not care about some issue in my life which normally wouldn't effect as much without accutane. However I learned to recognize when accutane was causing these moments to occur and that made it easier to move on to being myself again. Finally after completing my 6 months on accutane my skin was completely clear and it still is to this day. Now to help my skin stay clear every day I try to remember to wash my skin while in the shower then after getting out of the shower I eventually apply the 2nd step Proactive benzoyl peroxide base solution its the only Proactive product worth crap IMO before finally applying some oil free moisturizer with some sort of SPF something in it. So in conclusion I would recommend accutane to anyone who like me feels like you have unsuccessfully tried all other acne medications and simply cant bear dealing with acne anymore because from my experience it does work and the side effects are not nearly as bad as some claim.
